History of the School

The studio opened in 2006, with Chief Instructor Master Robert Kloss and operating under Master John Godwin's Korean Martial Arts Institute #6. Through the years instructors have included Mr. Tim Watson Sam Dan, Master Laura Myers, Master Watters, and Mr. Matt Brown Sam Dan. The studio has been host to many internationally renowned Instructors who include, Grandmaster Perry Zmugg (Austria 10th Dan Hapkido), Grandmaster Geoffrey Booth (Australia 10th Dan Hapkido), and Master Aldwin Lee (Holland 7th Dan HaiDong Gumdo). At the grand opening history was made with the attendance of three Korean Grand masters; Grand Master Jae Chul Shin, Grand Master Ji Han Jae (founder of Sin Mo Hapkido), and Grand Master Dr. He Young Kimm (Founder of HanMuDo). Also in attendance were Master John Godwin and Master Dan Jansa. In 2015 Master Geoffrey Setyanto and Mrs. Annaliza Setyanto Sam Dan purchased the school from Master Godwin and rechristened it Legacy Martial Arts.

History of the Chief Instructor

Master Geoffrey Setyanto began his training in 1995 under Master John Godwin. He began assistant instructing at the age of 13. By the age of 18 he was a full time instructor at the headquarter school for Korean Martial Arts Institute(KMAI). In 2004 (at the age of 20) Master Setyanto became the Chief Instructor of the Penndel, PA Korean Martial Arts Institute. After managing the Penndel Studio for 8 years he relocated to the Newark, DE KMAI. Approximately three years later the opportunity to become a studio owner presented itself and Master Setyanto and his wife Annaliza became the proud owners of Legacy Martial Arts in Kennett Square, PA.

Legacy Martial Arts prides itself on creating a family friendly atmosphere that inspires every member of the family to participate. We offer many programs that include students ranging from 4 years of age to 68 years old. Our classes offer fitness, self-defense, advanced weapon training, traditional Tang Soo Do, and leadership/mentoring training. Our goal is to create a fun environment that encourages student's best efforts and constant improvement in all their endeavors.
