History of the School:

The Studio started in January 2005 and was named Twin Lakes Tang Soo Do. In 2010 we opened up a second location and changed the name to Fire Dragon Karate.

History of the Chief Instructor:

I first started studying martial arts at Bergstrom Tang Soo Do under Master Jerry Strickland in 1992 in the Austin TX area.  I was lucky to have found a World Tang Soo Do school.  Soon after beginning, Mr. Reggie Goodwin took over the school and I trained there until I graduated from the University of Texas in 1996 with a degree in Business Economics.  I was able to achieve my Cho Dan before graduating. In the following years I trained at YT Tang Soo in Plano Texas.  During my time at YT I achieved my E Dan.  I then moved back to Austin TX in 2000.  There I began training under Mr. Goodwin again.  In 2005 I started Twin Lakes Tang Soo Do.  Later in 2010 I opened a second studio location and then renamed the school Fire Dragon Karate.

What makes your studio stand out from the rest:

I believe there are a decent number of martial arts schools that have something good to offer their students.  I like to think that a differentiator for us is that we are delivering an experience were we balance high standards as I understood them from Grandmaster Jae C Shin while still providing an inviting/positive environment for students that want to better themselves physically and mentally.  And maybe the key is that this is done by a group of instructors that share a common vision.  It may be that others in WTSDA schools will read this and think that is not so unique because they have that in their school.  That consistency of quality is one reason I love being associated with the WTSDA

Student Testimonials:

"Joining Fire Dragon Karate has been one of the best things I can do for my 3 kids. Our first few weeks there, all I could think was...I wish we had started sooner. We are so thrilled to be part of Fire Dragon Karate simply because of the AMAZING teachers and leadership team. It's always the people that make a place what it is. They always teach with patience and knowledge and lead by example. We are so happy to be a part of Fire Dragon Karate. Tang Soo!"

~ Rana Aljibouri

"My oldest son joined Fire Dragon Karate almost 3 years ago when he was 5. Initially he was nervous and came close to tears the first few weeks in class. In the last few years Fire Dragon Karate has helped him grow in many ways, and he has turned into a thoughtful, confident kid that loves karate and has many friends in class. Subsequently, my daughter and I have also joined Fire Dragon Karate, and Tang Soo Do has become something we can enjoy together as a family. Tournaments and karate events have become family events that aren't just about one family member, and we have found a great community to be apart of. My family has also embraced the Tang Soo Do attitude that we should all be striving for mental and physical betterment in our lives. I feel fortunate that my kids and I can train and learn together at Fire Dragon Karate, and I'm grateful for the exceptional instructors and leaders in the school."

~ Ryan Moore

"I am so grateful we found Fire Dragon Karate! My sons, ages 9 and 12, have been students of the school for 5 and 7 years and it has been a terrific experience for them. Not only are they benefitting from regular physical exercise, but they have gained in self-confidence and formed lasting friendships with fellow students. Master Bailey and the other instructors work to instill in their students respect, honor, integrity, and the importance of working towards long term goals, values that mirror and reinforce our family values. As a new member of the leadership team, my older son is learning valuable skills that will help him as he begins the transition to adulthood. We are so happy to be part of the FDK family!"

~ Jennifer Mutschink

"When I first decided to train in martial arts with my son I did not have a specific style in mind. My goal was to find a school where we could train together, in the same class, with the same experiences. As it turned out it was harder than I first thought to find a school that allowed an 8 year old and their parent to train together in the same class. Most schools in my neighborhood had only dedicated adult and youth classes, requiring the students to train separately. I discovered Fire Dragon Karate (then Twin Lakes Tang Soo Do) through the YMCA I was a member of and arranged for an opportunity to audit the family class. From the first moment I observed the class I knew I had found where I wanted my son and I to train, and today I am happy to say we have not regretted the decision to join the studio. Over the years Fire Dragon Karate has become more than just the place we learn martial arts, it has become part of our family. Our involvement with the studio has help develop not just our defense skills but our social and teaching skills; and in some instances provided an anchor and the support necessary to get through the occasional difficult times. Through the development of students and leaders the studio fosters the desire to learn new techniques, explore new boundaries, and push oneself in new directions and greater heights of accomplishment. Fire Dragon Karate has proven to be more than a martial arts studio, it has become a part of my family."
